COACH SPOTLIGHT - Heather Hunsucker - SHS BASKETBALL

Coach Heather Hunsucker grew up in Waldron, Arkansas and attended Waldron High School where she participated in volleyball, basketball, track, softball, and golf. She was a member of a State Championship Golf Team and earned All-State honors. Coach Hunsucker won two State Championships in Track, running the 800 and the mile. She also earned 4A West All-Conference honors in basketball. In volleyball, she was a part of an undefeated Conference and District Championship team while earning 4A All-Conference honors. Coach Hunsucker attended Northside High School in Fort Smith her senior year and participated in basketball and fast-pitch softball (inaugural season at NHS). She was named the Tournament of Champions Most Valuable Player and was a part of Northside's first-ever 5A State Championship. While attending the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, she coached numerous youth basketball teams and worked at The New School. She earned a bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 2003. Upon graduating from the U of A, Coach Hunsucker got her first teaching and coaching job at Woodland Junior High in Fayetteville. She taught Health and PE while coaching volleyball and basketball. While teaching and coaching at Woodland, Coach Hunsucker earned her Master’s Degree in Adaptive Education from the University of Arkansas. After 3 years at Woodland, she moved to Fayetteville High School as an assistant girls basketball, girls volleyball, and girls softball coach. During her time at FHS, the girls softball team won two state titles in 2006 and 2007 and the girl's basketball team went to the finals four straight seasons, winning two state titles in 2009 and 2011. In 2011, Coach Hunsucker transferred to Springdale High School as the Head Girls Basketball Coach. In her time at SHS, the girls basketball team has signed 15 players to college scholarships. The team finished ranked 8th overall by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette in 2018. Coach Hunsucker has over 100 wins as the head coach and has led the Lady Bulldogs to 6 State Tournament appearances, three Siloam Spring Classic Championships, a Neosho Classic Championship, numerous All-Conference and All-State players, as well as a USA Today Arkansas Player of the Year Selection. Last year, Coach Hunsucker completed a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Henderson State University. She lives in Farmington where she enjoys walking her dogs, riding her e-bike, watching TV shows and movies, attending live concerts at the AMP, and watching sports!
